Helpful Homework Tips!

* In school, be sure to record all of your assignments (and sometimes special directions too!) in   your assignment notebook. Then, at home, you can check each one off as you complete it!

* Have a scheduled time for homework.

* Find a quiet, designated space to work where you will not be distracted.

* Pace yourself and do a little each night (or every other night for big projects!). Don't save it all for the last minute!

* Keep all of your finished work in a special place (your backpack!) ready to go to school.

* Equipment suggested for use at home:
                Dictionary/Thesaurus
                 Atlas
Math equipment (ruler, protracter, pencil--- math is always done in pencil!)
Pen or computer for final copies of all writing (in reading, spelling, AND English!)
                Standard size lined paper

NOTE:
In 6th grade students should not be spending more than 1 and 3/4 hours
(student handbook) each night on homework. One of the many purposes of homework is to"develop good study habits and a sense of responsibility." (student handbook) Thus, it is important for students to learn how to manage and organize their time between homework AND life! This is one of the skills we try to teach and reinforce in our 6th grade classes. For more help and suggestions in this area please contact your child's homeroom teacher.
