FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
World History
Can I use my history note book for other classes too?
No, absolutely not! You must have a note book devoted only to this class because I take it from you on test days and you do not get it back until the next day. If you had English homework in that note book you would be unable to do it.
Do I need to bring my text book to class every day?
No, only on when I ask you to (which is very infrequent).
Do I need to bring my note book to class every day?
Yes.
How do I know what my homework assignment is?
Your assignments are described on your weekly assignment sheet. You get a new one every week to two weeks, but if you lose it, simply go to the homepage.
What does “to be turned in” mean on my weekly assignment sheet?
It means that the assignment is longer and more complex and should be written in FULL SENTENCES with real attention to detail. I always want to know why, how etc., so be sure to give as much explanation and information as possible. I will also collect the assignment and grade it on a scale of 1-10.
What does “in your note book” mean on my weekly assignment sheet?
It means you can write in note form, and the assignment is generally shorter and less complex.
Why should I bother to do my homework if you aren’t going to grade my note book on the day of the test?
I will ask you to complete focus activities several times a week that require you to have completed the previous night’s assignment. You will be allowed to use your note book to answer these questions. Getting good grades on these focus activities can definitely help your term average. Additionally, you will learn far more from a class discussion on material that is familiar to you.
How are note books graded?
I collect note books almost every time you have a test or quiz (map quizzes excluded). You will receive 1 point for every day of class notes and up to 5 points for every homework done in your note book during that unit.
What should I do when I miss class?
Copy or xerox a friend’s class notes, turn in any homework due the day before, and pick up any missed handouts from the bins on the counter under the windows. You can also see me to go over the copied/xeroxed notes. REMEMBER, YOU WILL LOSE POINTS WHEN I GRADE YOUR NOTE BOOK IF THERE ARE CLASS NOTES MISSING.
What if I miss a class the day of a test?
You should see me immediately when you return to class to schedule a make up time.
What if I miss the review class the day before the test?
Since no new information was presented during that class you are still responsible for taking the test with the rest of the class.
Should I take notes even if you haven’t written something down on the board?
Yes, absolutely! I cannot write down every important fact on the board. You will get better and better as the year goes on at taking notes. However, I will write most notes on the aboard or they will be presented in a power point. You are responsible for everything discussed in class unless otherwise instructed.
What happens when I got so into my new Harry Potter book that I attempted one of Hermione’s spells and I actually turned my homework/paper/project into Scabbers, the rat?
Uh, maybe you should stop reading so much science fiction and get outside for some fresh air.
