WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS
9/4-9/12
DUE THURSDAY-
1) Read the entire Expectations and Procedures packet and either check the FAQ page on the homepage or come to class with questions on any of the class policies.
2) Go onto the class homepage. The address is http://mail.ab.mec.edu/~abuffum/. There isn’t much on the page yet, but familiarize yourself with the different parts of the site that may be helpful in the future.
3) Open your textbook and flip through the pages. Pay attention to how it is organized. Identify chapters, sections and then both red and green headings. Find three aspects of the text that you think will be useful this year .

DUE MONDAY- read handout on the fall or decline of the Roman Empire and the legacy of Rome. Please respond to these questions IN YOUR NOTEBOOK.
1) Why led to the start of the Germanic tribes’ migration into the Roman Empire?
2) In your opinion, what were the three most serious problems facing the Roman people OTHER than the Germanic barbarians?
3) Can you think of one aspect of your life that connects to or reminds you of Roman culture?
DUE TUESDAY-Read handout titled “Barbaric Tribes Destroy the Roman Empire.” It is really about ALL of the reasons that the Western Roman Empire fell apart.
1) Highlight or underline the MOST important information. You should not highlight more than 2-3 sentences per paragraph, but feel free to highlight phrases or words.
2) Put question marks next to any information that is confusing.

DUE WEDNESDAY- read pages 317-318 in your textbook. Answer the following questions TO BE TURNED IN.
1) Describe the culture and lifestyle of the Germanic people.
2) Who was Clovis, what did he do, and what impact do you think his actions had on Western Europe?
DUE THURSDAY- read pages 319-320 in your text. Stop @ Charlemagne Extends Frankish Rule. Answer the following questions IN YOUR NOTEBOOK.
1) Who was the major domo or mayor the palace and why did he end up having more power than the Merovingian king?
2) What was the Battle of Tours, when did it take place and why do some historians argue that it was a crucial turning point in early medieval history?
