Question Of The Week--Explanation

What the heck is QOTW?
At the start of each week, I will give you a different question—hence the name, “Question of the Week.”  Some questions will be science-related, others will not.  Your goal is to find and submit the answer to the Question of the Week Box by 1:30 p.m. Friday.  You may use the following resources to find the answer: the internet, your parents, books, teachers (except me!).  I will announce the question on Monday, and it will be posted for your reference all week, in my classroom and on my webpage.

What’s the point?
Being intellectually curious and knowing how to find information are valuable skills, in science and in life.  QOTW is designed to present you with interesting (sometimes random!) questions to ponder, and to give you a chance to develop the research skills to answer diverse questions.  There is an almost infinite supply of interesting questions just waiting to be asked (and answered) in this world!
What’s it worth?
QOTW will be counted as part of your homework grade.  Over the course of each term, you will be expected to earn 10 QOTW points.  If you earn more than the required number, additional points will count as extra credit.  You are encouraged to try to find the answer to each and every question.  QOTW will be assigned a point value based on how many people submit the correct answer: if everyone in all of my classes answers correctly, that question will only be worth ? point (it must have been too easy if everyone got it!).  If only one person gets the correct answer, the question will be worth 5 points.
How do I submit an answer?
Submit all answers on a slip of paper or 3x5 index card to the QOTW box.
You need to include the following information:
·       Your name
·       Your T-
·       QOTW # (1st week = #1)
·       The answer
·       Where you found the answer (specific website—not just “Google,” name of person, title of book)
