Room One May News
Can you believe it’s May already? How time flies! We are starting new units in science and social studies this month that will take us through the remainder of the year. Our social studies unit involves learning about disabilities and is called
“What If You Couldn’t?” We will read about, discuss and participate in various activities that focus on vision and hearing disabilities. Please be aware that your child may want to discuss what they have learned further at home.
The scientists of Room One have begun working with organisms. Our work with plants and animals will involve growing and observing seeds, tending to some animal friends and our very own student-led experiment on changing variables in plant growth and the effects that has.
Our math topics this month include greater than/less than, hundreds and money. We may begin measurement as well as it is part of our science unit, however, we will focus more on this concept in June.
The students have done a great job with their written homework. Written assignments will be given on Wednesday nights and are due on Friday. Please continue to encourage good homework habits and neat work.
Attached you will find a form for spring conferences. These conferences are optional but give a chance for a final sit down chat before the end of the school year. If you would like a conference, please return the form by May 9th.
Please note that there is no school on Monday, May 26th (Memorial Day).
Although the weather is warmer, our room continues to be quite chilly. It is a good idea to dress in layers (as Mrs. Hurley and I do!)
Finally, the last Scholastic Book order form of the year is also attached to this letter. If you would like to order books, please return the form by Friday, May 9th. Checks should be made payable to Scholastic Book Clubs. Please do not send cash.
Thank you for your continued support. Have a wonderful month!
Mrs. Holt
