Expectations for English

CHARACTER COUNTS (see bulletin board in my room and in Mr. Lewis' room)!
 Be trustworthy, respectful,  responsible, caring, fair, and a good citizen!
                                                        
NEEDED FOR EACH CLASS:
        1. brain and heart
        2. English binder, planbook
        3. pleasure reading book
        4. pencils, eraser, thin markers and a highlighter
        5. respectful behavior, following team and school expectations
        6. willingness to ask questions and participate in class and team actvities

HOMEWORK:
        1. Read at least 20 minutes daily.  Sometimes this will be an assigned reading, sometimes one of your choice.  
        2. Homework is an important part of the skill development process; when written homework is assigned (not every day), it is expected to be done thoroughly and on time. Correct grammar, spelling, attention to detail, and neatness is also expected.  
        3. Thoughtful writing is expected. Spend the time to make sure you have actually written down what it is you want to say!
        4. Final papers will be either typed or written in pen.
        5. For most writing done at home, use of the computer is encouraged.
        6. Computers are available for use after school.

EXTRA HELP:  AVAILABLE -- MAKE USE OF IT!
I will be available at least 2 times a week before or after school.  The specific days will be posted near the homework board each week.

BINDER ORGANIZATION – 3 sections
                1. Tool Box -- a reference section, information and strategies to be used all year
                2. Current Work – “stuff” we are working on now
                3. Save – “stuff” to keep until the end of the year
                
        KEEP NEAT AND ORGANIZED -- no loose papers

ASSESSMENT INFORMATION: :  Grades will be based on the following:  writing activities and compositions, reading comprehension activities, quizzes, tests, projects, notebook organization, homework and class work, as well as your general effort in each of these areas.  I will tell you how I will grade each assignment and how many points each assignment is worth.
