The Colonials turned in a solid effort against a strong Lincoln-Sudbury team in a tough 2-1 loss. The game was tight throughout with chances at goal coming at a premium. Lincoln-Sudubry carried a bit more of the play in the early going although they rarely threatened the AB goal. The Colonials did find some success in the counterattack especially through Nolan Condron and Oliver Davis. The best chance for the Warriors came when they played a ball over the top of the AB defense. Alex Li stormed off his line to snuff out the chance at the foot of the Ls striker as the play was whistled for offside. As the half wore on, the Colonials improved the quality of their link up play which allowed them to get forward with more numbers and get into more advanced positions on the field.
Ryan Rose helped the Colonials to get their passing game going. He picked up a ball in the right channel at the midfield stripe and turned towards the outside. Eliot Conwill made a darting diagonal run from left to right. Rose played up to Conwill who deftly backheeled to Jeremy Bloomstone who astutely followed up the play. Bloomstone saw the goalkeeper off his line and decided to chip the ball first time. The ball nestled into the back of the net for the sweetest of goals.
Acton-Boxborough rode the Bloomstone goal into the break for a deserved 1-0 lead. Three minutes into the second half, the game would change as LS was able to capitalize on a half chance to find the equalizer. There was a stalemater for the next several minutes as neither team was able to get in behind the other. A free kick for LS just over midfield turned into the match winner. The left footed service was of the highest quality as it fell behind the defense and in front of the goalkeeper. It was a very dangerous ball that defenders have a difficult time dealing with because of the pace and shape of the service. An AB defender had to attempt to clear the ball but it skipped off his head into the net. It was an unfortunate moment in the game.
All season the Colonials have fought until the very end and today was no different. Oliver Davis had the best chance to find the equalizer. He broke in behind the LS defense to find himself alone with the goalkeeper from about 10 yards out. He tried to wrong foot the keeper, opting for a finesse shot, but the goalkeeper was up to the task to keep it out. There were two other half chances that left the Colonials wanting more. Chris Li sent in a picture perfect cross from his left back position in the space in behind the defense. Jose Chacon beat the goalkeeper to the ball but his shot was blocked before it could get to goal. There was another opportunity when Liincoln-Sudbury made a meal of a long throw in from Tom Meagher on the left side. Several players had a stab at it until it popped out
towards the top of the box from 12 yards out. The side volley from the Acton-Boxborough player was not struck solidly. The ball was subsequently cleared.
The Colonials close out league play at Newton South where they will bring their grit and hard work.
