2009 CONANT SUMMER READING PROGRAM |
|
This summer encourage your child to read for the fun and enrichment that reading provides!
Reading during the summer is very important in helping children maintain and enhance their academic skills. Reading is also a great way to relax from the active outdoor summer fun.
Each year, we ask children to keep a list of the books that they read over the summer. The goal is that every child read at least 10 books or read for at least 10 hours over the course of the summer.
- Every child who participates will receive a Certificate of Achievement in the fall.
- Children who reach the goal of reading at least 10 books or reading for at least 10 hours will receive a Conant 2009 key chain to add to or begin their collection.
If desired, children may obtain one or more pledges for reading from family members or friends to purchase books for the Conant School Library. The pledges can be in the form of an amount per book, an amount per hour of reading, or one sum for obtaining a reading goal of your choice. Please note that obtaining pledges is optional. Any donation is gratefully accepted.
- Children who obtain one or more pledges for the library will also have a book donated to the Conant Library in their name.
- A bookplate listing the child’s name as the donor will be placed in one of the books that we purchase with the donated money. That child will be invited to be the first person to check that book out of the library.
The summer reading program has been explained to the children during their weekly visit to the school library. Books read for any other summer reading program such as the Acton Public Library program may be included. Students may also include books that are read to them.
On the Button Bar is a link to a reading log for you to list the books that you have read. If you need more space to log your book entries, you may use additional plain or lined paper. In September, you will be reminded to return the log sheets to the school library. We hope that you have a wonderful and safe summer!
Happy Reading!!
