Welcome to our Classroom Web Site!
We have begun our study of Acton Long Ago, and the children seem very excited to explore something new. We will talk about what life was like here in Acton about 100 years ago. The children certainly have a wide range of guesses as to what they think life was like. Each student has had the opportunity to draw a picture of what he/she thinks homes, schools, transportation, and children's play looked like around 1900. They also had the opportunity to explore with some artifacts. They each took a guess as to the materials it was made out of, what it was used for, and who used it. They also got to make a quick sketch of each artifact.
Much of the homework the children will have over the next few weeks will correlate with our study of Acton Long Ago. We will look closely at a variety of maps of Acton dating back to the 1700's to the present. We will also take a look at many inventions here in the states, as well as more information about the homes that all of our students live in.
We hope to make a visit to the the Hosmer House in the next few weeks. It is a great example of life here in Acton many years ago. We will also have the need for parent volunteers over the next month or so as we will look to do ragdoll sewing, an Acton Long Ago tea, and an Acton Long Ago activity day. I will keep you posted.
Thank you so much for all of the family support lately! Thank you so much for our many volunteers that braved Wachusett with us. It was a fun and challenging trip for all. We are also so appreciative of all the wonderful books that were donated to the classroom from the book fair, as well as the treats and the extra hands for our Halloween celebration, along with help on cutting materials for the classroom.
Take care, Jen Pratt
